1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background before starting the company?
"Yes! I had been a stay at home, homeschooling mother of two for 7 years when I first came up with the idea for the business. I had kids young and didn’t see myself pursuing a career because I had no secondary education or clarity on what I wanted to do other than being a mom."
2. What/who inspired you to create The Tomte Cake?
"My kids. Being present with them and offering them beautiful experiences and memories is a huge focus in my life."
3. What values are most important to you and how do you ensure they are reflected in your company?
"Authenticity and connection are huge for me. I want to create a culture where everyone feels seen, heard, and appreciated for what they bring to this company. That, along with raising really good humans (my kids!) and providing a work environment where the many other mothers I’ve hired can do the same for theirs through a healthy work-life balance. If I can consistently offer those things to my team, I feel like I’ve succeeded."
4. Five years ago, is there where you imagined you would be?
"Absolutely not! I was deep in the trenches of raising toddlers at the time. But when the idea struck, I felt like I couldn’t rest until I brought it to life."
5. What upcoming projects or initiatives are you most excited about?
"Ooooh I can’t wait to share with you!! Our top priority at The Tomte Cake is to provide a beautiful experience for kids, and an easier experience for parents. We’re working hard behind the scenes to create something special that enhances The Tomte Cake set even further for families who are enjoying this tradition!"

Miranda Vaughn is the founder, owner, and creator of The Tomte Cake—a whimsical gingerbread house baking kit, featuring a mischievous gnome named Tomte. She is a mom of two living in the Pacific Northwest. She loves nature and all animals, but most especially horses. Above all, she loves being a mom and creating special memories and traditions with her own children.
